DAY 298: Beyond The Past

"Put me in remembrance: let us plead together: declare thou, that thou mayest be justified."
Isaiah 43:26
This passage teaches us about God's remarkable forgiveness. Learning this lesson can bring a new level of freedom to one's mind.
The setting of the passage is a courtroom. The courtroom here, though, is different than what we expect in a courtroom today. In this courtroom, the prosecuting attorney is also the judge. God has the responsibility of handling both roles. Like any prosecuting attorney, he lists out our transgressions. But unlike a prosecuting attorney attempting to force us to admit to our guilt, he challenges us to look at the judge and the works of the judge.
The judge, who again is God, has two options, the power to condemn or the power to pardon and forgive. The judge's declaration is forgiveness.
What a freedom this should be for us. When the devil attempts to place upon us a condemnation for what we have done, we must put to memory, not our faults, but God's triumphs! He has forgiven you and you are free.
"Bury your yesterdays and live in your tomorrow."
