A couple of weeks ago we looked at a passage in Isaiah which was a courtroom scene. In that scene, God was acting as prosecuting attorney and judge. This passage here reveals to us our defense attorney. The Greek word which is translated "advocate" in this passage in its setting represented someone's defense counsel, or if the person did not have sufficient funds for a lawyer, they would still have someone who could come plead their case before the judge. Jesus is our defense attorney before God. The accuser of the brethren, the devil (Revelation 12:10), has attempted to accuse you before God of the sins you have committed. |
